BRAVE FACE

The inspiring WWII Memoir of a Dutch/German Child

A funny thing happened at the first Unforgivable book launch event. Many lovely seniors came (it was held at the Green Acres Senior Center in Fairfax). No surprise there.

People loved the book reading and enthused that they felt they were there. Nice to hear, but not shocking.

Then, I asked for questions. One lady began telling me about a book she’s reading about a girl who lived in a seaside town in the Netherlands. She told me about what a lovely family and father this girl had and all about her relationship with her sister. She told me she hadn’t realized how people did without food and heat during the Hunger Winter. I began to grow suspicious.

Next, she told the group about how this girl’s mother had a baby and couldn’t feed him. And how her friend, whose baby died, nursed him.

“Is the name of this book, Brave Face?”

“Yes! How did you know?”

“I’m the coauthor. It’s about my mother’s childhood.”

Talk about a strange and wonderful coincidence!
